What is the Carte T?

The Carte T, or professional property transaction card, is a mandatory authorisation to conduct transactions involving property and business goodwill. It is mainly held by estate agents, estate agencies and certain networks of representatives.

Issued by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCI), it certifies that the holder meets the legal competence, good-repute and insurance requirements for practising in real estate.

The Carte T is governed by the Hoguet Act of 2 January 1970, which regulates real estate professions in France to protect consumers during property transactions.

Do property representatives need their own Carte T?

Independent property representatives generally do not need their own Carte T. They work under the responsibility of an agency or network holding the professional card, which issues them a collaborator certificate.

This arrangement allows many property advisers to practise legally without holding the professional card themselves.

Why is the Carte T important?

The Carte T provides customers with assurance of professionalism and competence. It confirms compliance with legal property transaction obligations and the insurance required for the activity.

For individuals, a Carte T is an essential element of trust when buying, selling or renting. For professionals, it is the legal basis for practising as an estate agent and conducting property transactions.
